The key to successful blogging is to choose a relevant topic of general interest...better if the idea is unique,on which you have a solid grip on, so that you can write good content ...i suggest blogger as good platform , as i have experienced the ease of blogging as a blogger.Google blogger is time tested & authorized,with Google Adsense integrated in it.I recommend to start with a free domain,if you choose blogger you will have ".blogspot.com" attached to your domain name.free domains can be converted to paid domain(.com)when you feel the need.As you can see,I am using free domain but still i was able get Google Adsense for my blog.So it depends on the content rather than your site is a paid domain or not.Paid domains only provides bit more preference in search results,but won't make much difference.
