Jolla the new brand of smartphone has finally arrived in the market,the most important thing about Jolla smartphones is that the operating system of this device is not android neither windows but a completely new operating system called sailfish.The new OS Sailfish is also based on linux platform and is developed by the former employees of the nokia who has worked in the development of Meego Operating system which was developed by nokia and was launched in N9 Series in mid 2011.The employees formed a new company Jolla, after Meego was dumped by Nokia.
Jolla claims that the Sailfish operating system has achieved compatibility with hardware for android operating system,hence the device will be capable of running the latest android apps as well as the native Sailfish apps.This cross platform compatibility will give this device a great advantage in establishing itself in the market and also solve the issue of availability of apps for the device to a great extent.
Being a Finnish brand the design and development is completely done in Finland,with no front facing buttons,the device looks very elegant and premium.
The first smartphone from Jolla is powered by 1.4GHz Qualcomm Dual Core processor,1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.The company has not yet revealed the details about the GPU used in this device but we expect it to be an Adreno 305 considering the available specifications of the device.
Apart from all the design and hardware features,the main marketing point of the device will be its new Sailfish operating system which is expected to be more user friendly,and the new gesture based UI will ensure effortless navigation of the device.
Although we can't predict the future of the Sailfish operating system but we can surely say that ,it will be a strong rival for the Android OS.
