Samsung has unveiled its first Hexa-Core chip, Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona.Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 is the world's first ARM based six core mobile CPU with 28nm HKMG process technology from Samsung.Similar to the Exynos 5420 chip unveiled the last year,these chips are based on ARM big.LITTLE technology,and Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP), Exynos 5 Hexa is able to run various combinations of all six cores depending on the user scenario, resulting in the finest performance with incredible power efficiency. In addition to the superb CPU, the UX and gaming experience are silky smooth & uncompromising with the latest generation Mali-T628 GPU.
Hexa, as its name suggests, is powered by six CPU cores; two 1.7GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex -A7 cores. It is also one of the first Exynos processor to have Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) which simply allows the Hexa to seamlessly select the right processor type and the right number of cores for any given task resulting in optimum performance while prolonging battery life. With HMP enabled, 42% improved performance from Exynos 5 Dual but with better power efficiency.
Richer Gaming & Multimedia Experience
Equipped with an embedded Display Port (eDP) interface and memory bandwidth up to 12.8GB/s, Exynos 5 Hexa supports WQXGA (2560x1600) resolution that is nearly two* times the pixel resolution of Full HD (1920x1080). WQXGA resolution comes very precise when browsing the web, reading eBooks/magazines, and viewing high quality photos.
In addition, it uses the eDP display port interface which is compliant with Panel Self Refresh (PSR) technology which reduces power consumption by instructing application processors to enter a power saving mode when the device is displaying still images, reducing power consumption. For excellent video experiences, Exynos 5 Hexa is integrated with a video codec that supports playback in up to Full HD at 1080p 60fps. The Multi-Format Codec(MFC) supports encoding and decoding of various types including H.264, MPEG4, and VP8.
With Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 Games and applications look their best visually and be pleasing to the eye. Exynos 5 Hexa provides 1.2 times better 3D graphics performance over the previous Exynos 5 Dual.Exynos 5260 is currently in mass production and is used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo that was launched in India recently.
