HTC Desire 616 Review,Benchmark & Unboxing

DESIGN

HTC Desire 616 is a Dual sim mid range device from htc, priced at about Rs.17,000(check price in Amazon,Flipkart). The device has a dimension of 142 x 71.9 x 9.2 mm and weighs 150g.HTC Desire 616 sports a 5 inch display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and  the exterior design  feels very elegant.

Talking about the key placements  of the device HTC haven't provided any capacitive buttons on the front panel ,instead they have provided it inside the display which will consume some display space but it suits the overall design theme of the device. The lock/unlock key & volume rockers are placed on right hand of the device leaving the left side completely blank without any ports or switches ,USB port is provide at the bottom while  3.5mm audio slot is on the top side. The back panel of the device has been given a glossy finish which looks great but attract fingerprints and may easily get scratched in long run.HTC has not provided gorilla glass protection for this device which is a bit disappointing but overall as a package the design of the device is quite nice and i would give rating of 8/10 in case design.

DISPLAY

HTC Desire 616  sports a 5inch HD display with a resolution of  1280x720 pixels .HTC has provided a very nice display for this device ,it seemed extremely vibrant and had a very good viewing angle ,the only problem we could find is that we tilt to bigger angles the brightness of the display dropped and there were a little variation in colours which is not so evident but revealed in a closer look .The 720p hd resolution of the display ads to the visual experience of the device .considering these regarding the display quality i would surely give 7.25 /10

CAMERA

HTC Desire 616 camera department sports a 8MP primary camera and 2MP front facing shooter. The 8MP primary camera supports Autofocus,Touch focus,HDR and  can take pictures at a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels,and supports video recording in 1080p,while the 2MP secondary camera can record video  at 720p.

We have tested the response of the primary camera and found that the device will take approx 2 second delay to focus and capture the image but the images were very precisely focused and had very good colour reproduction, htc has also provided zero shutter lag mode i which the device will capture images almost instantly with little sacrifice in focusing. In low light the images were noisy  but for outdoor  usage this device delivers will deliver a very good quality imaging  .considering all these factors i could give 7.5/10 for the camera performance of the device

HARDWARE & SOFTWARE

HTC Desire 616 comes with Octa-core processor from mediatek which is the biggest marketing point of this device . The processor of Desire 616 is  1.4 GHz Octa-core Mediatek MT6592 coupled with 1GB of RAM.Mediatek MT6592  sports a Mali 450MP4 GPU which delivers a very nice gaming performance for the device. In our test with Nenamark 2 the device scored 60.4fps which is a very nice score .When it comes to antutu Benchmark the device scored 19014, it is a nice score, but we expected  a higher score than 21000 with antutu since the canvas HD plus 190 with hexa core processor was able to get 20460,but this may be due to the underclocked processor, usually the Octa-core Mediatek MT6592 will be clocked at 1.7 GHz/2GHz but in this device htc has limited it to 1.4GHz which may be in favor  to increase battery backup of the device.
HTC Desire 616 has 4GB of internal storage which is little low for the price usually for this price one would expect 8GB ,but htc has only provided 4GB out of which  1.98GB is user available. In case of RAM out of 1GB, 678MB is user available which is great to have and will ensure fluid performance of the device . The device also sports a micro SD card slot which can support a maximum of 32GB.
HTC has provided the Android 4.2.2 JellyBean for this device but we expect them to provide KitKat update in future. The user interface of the device was nice and has option to install and move apps to memory card.

The other connectivity options include Bluetooth v4.0,USB v2.0 ,wifi,3G(HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps).HTC Desire 616 also comes with 2000mAH battery which can deliver upto 14Hrs of 2G talktime. So for the hardware of the device i will give a rating of 7.5/10
