Lenovo Vibe P1 with Fingerprint Scanner, 4900mAh Battery "Ultimate value for Money", Review, Benchmark, Unboxing, Pros & Cons

          Lenovo Vibe P1 is latest offering from Lenovo and is the only device which offers finger print scanner under the price range of Rs. 16,000.  Apart from that Lenovo has provided pretty attractive spec sheet which include a metallic build, Snapdragon 615 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and a huge 4900mAh battery with fast charging 

DESIGN

             In terms of design Lenovo Vibe P1 features best in class metallic build with dimension of 152.9 x 75.6 x 9.9 mm mm and weighs 189g which is slightly heavy but considering the battery capacity it is perfectly justifiable.  It also features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for better durability whereas the finger print scanner ensure enhanced security  .

             Talking about the key placements ,on the front panel of Vibe P1 houses 5MP fixed focus front camera and earpiece on top whereas the 2 capacitive buttons(backlit) and an hard key with integrated fingerprint scanner is placed at the bottom.  The lock/unlock key and volume rockers are provided on the right hand of the device while the dedicated switch for triggering power saving mode is provided on the left hand side.  The 3.5mm audio slot and the noise cancellation mic are provide at the top, while the voice reception mic, two speaker grills (only one is functional)and USB 2.0 port is placed at bottom.  

          The back panel is build out of metal with matte finish which will resist finger print and houses 13MP secondary camera with Phase detection auto focus, Dual Tone Dual LED flash ,and a speaker grill at the bottom.  Removing the top cap on the reveals two sim card slots(Nano SIM) both can support 4G connectivity and a microSD card slot will support upto 128GB, whereas the 4900mAh non removable battery is concealed inside the metallic back .

DISPLAY

             Lenovo Vibe P1 comes with a 5.5inch 1080p  IPS display with 401ppi pixel density. The display quality  was great with no visible pixelation and had good color reproduction. Vibe P1 also features dedicated display modes such as Default mode, comfort mode, Super bright mode, and custom.  The one that i liked was the Super bright mode which boosts slightly boost brightness of the screen.  It also had uniform viewing angles but it felt like the display was slightly low on brightness .

CAMERA 

       Lenovo Vibe P1 sports a 13MP primary camera with Dual tone Dual LED flash and Phase detection auto focus while the  secondary camera is a 5MP sensor.  The 13MP primary camera supports Autofocus,Touch focus,Face detection, HDR and can take pictures at a maximum resolution of   4128 x 3096 pixels.  The primary camera also had shooting modes like Normal,panorama and effects ,while it could also record videos in 1080p with support to simultaneous video and image capturing and the user could also do touch focus while recording videos.  The camera was very responsive and the phase detection auto focus was quick in capturing.  it also had good exposure control hence we couldn't get any overexposed images from this camera whereas the the HDR mode was also very effective in high backlight condition.   

          The 5MP secondary camera supports touch focus, face detection and capturing modes like tap, 3s timer,Auto selfie (captures images when camera stabilizes).  The images capture from the front camera was not the best i have seen in this price range and the lack of beautification mode was very disappointing.  The absence of HDR mode made the images look dark in high  amount of backlight .

HARDWARE & SOFTWARE

            Lenovo Vibe P1 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 coupled with 2GB of RAM.  Snapdragon 615 is an Octacore cortex A53 core based chipset and sports a  Adreno 405 GPU  which delivers great gaming performance.  In our test with Nenamark 2 the device scored 59.6fps  which is a good score .  When it comes to Antutu Benchmark ,it scored 36905 in the Antutu v5.7, which is again good score in its class.   It was able to play both 720p and 1080p video without any buffering whereas it wasn't able to playback 4K videos.

                 Lenovo Vibe P1 has 32GB of internal storage  out of which  approx 24.11GB is user available.  In case of RAM out of 2GB, 1.2GB is user available.  Vibe P1 also support sports a micro SD card expansion upto 128GB.  Lenovo has also provided all important basic sensors like Accelarometer,Proximity,light,magnetic(e-compass),gyrosensor,Rotation vector and linear acceleration.

              Vibe P1 comes with fully customized ,version of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Vibe UI on the top.  The UI was very responsive while ,even if it does not support moving of apps individually ,the user can choose SDcard as primary install location  and thereby move all apps to memory card, but app data wont be transferred.  The UI supports different user profiles and two different launcher ,the Android launcher with a separate app drawer and the Vibe UI launcher without separate app drawer.  In fact lenovo has gone one step ahead by providing two different recent task list and an option to manage  app permission, which is supposed to the highlight feature of Android Marshmallow. The fingerprint scanner provided on the can store upto 2 fingerprint and was very fast and accurate  recognizing fingerprint.

              The other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.1 LE,Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB , GPRS/ EDGE, 3G & 4G LTE.  Lenovo Vibe P1  also comes with 4900mAh non removable  battery  , while it also support reverse charging which enables it charge other devices through a USB to Micro USB adapter(provided in the box)
